It is estimated that about 80% of the world’s population use herbs to treat a wide range of health problems. Herbs have been used sinced ancient times by many different cultures and many of the medicines and drugs in use today are of herbal origin.
Around 25% of prescribed medicines contain at least one active ingredient derived from a herb. Some, such as aspirin, contain synthetic compounds of natural plants.
Herbal preparations may use the root, leaves or stems of a plant.
